INT'L FOIL | EPEE TRAINING_CAMP
Time & Location
SalleRepublic is a high performance summer training camp, delivered in partnership with Project Fencing, for the preparation of young athletes dedicated to the foil and epee, offering extended access to year-round support through assisted workshops, group, and private 1:1 classes, with international and selected resident coaches.
To accommodate participants traveling from overseas and fencers based in the U.K., we have put together a few attendance options, detailed below:
Residential Fencers stay inside the facilities for all the training period, (arriving) Sunday, Aug-2, (departing) Sunday, Aug-9. What’s included: Training + Accommodation + food (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Training: Lesson with coach and technical assistance during training + opportunity to fence every day with our champions Edoardo Luperi & Brennan Louie within an international sparring environment; additional 1-1 sessions may be booked in advance, please enquire via email, below, as spaces are limited. Accommodation: Free campus Wi-Fi, washrooms, common area, towels, pillows, and bedding provided – 24/7 residence staff to supervise students.
For those who will choose this Option, we shall offer transfers from the airport or the train station to the camp and vice versa; if needed.
Non-residential Fencers don’t sleep inside the venue – students should aim to arrive in the morning around 9:00am, to be ready to start training at 09.30am, training is expected to finish around 18.00pm. Students, not choosing residential option, may stay for additional 1-1 coaching; if booked in advance, or participate in other activities, but must agree to leave the venue by 20:00pm. Training + food (lunch) is included. This option is perfect for those either wanting to get a glimpse into the world of high-level completive fencing; first-hand, or students that are unable to attend the entire camp and keen to experience it.

MAESTRO DARIO FINETTI (ITA)
Young promise of the master’s Italian school with national and international experience in high level fencing – SalleRepublic (U.K.) co-founder, Project Fencing (Italy) co-founder, Z Fencing (Singapore) coach partner, Maestro of Accademia della Scherma Livorno (Italy), and staff teacher for the U17 & U20 Indian national team.
MAESTRO CLAUDIO DEL MACCHIA (ITA)
Italian fencing coach with extensive experience in foil and epee. He worked in many clubs in Italy creating young talents in both weapons. As partner coach of the Turkish federation he coached Martino Minuto for Olympic qualification in 2016 and subsequent years. He was the also the coach of Martino Servalli European medalist in Paralympic foil and epee.
EDOARDO LUPERI (ITA)
Edoardo, from Leghorn, Tuscany, student of Marco Vannini, was the youngest in history to win an absolute Italian championship and to reconfirm himself the following year; defending the title and winning the second in a row – Edoardo can boast the double Olympic Youth Gold won in Singapore in 2010.
BRENNAN LOUIE (PHI)
Gold medalist and Champion of the South East Asian (SEA) Games, Coach Brennan has helped establish a new identity for Filipino fencing and continues to train, with US National Coach, Misha Itkin, in his hometown of Los Angeles, California, whilst being instrumental in the development training of his younger brother, Bryce Louie, one of America’s most promising upcoming fencers having won the 2019 Junior Olympics Gold medal in cadet men’s foil.
RICHARD BERNSTEIN (GBR)
Richard is a qualified foil coach, team manager, and SalleRepublic resident coach, who also continues to support multiple fencing clubs in the South West of England as well as the governing body of fencing on the Island of Jersey. Richard received a fencing scholarship at Millfield School. Before continuing his studies at the University of the West of England (UWE), where he became Men’s 1st Team captain and Vice President of the UWE fencing society, he competed for both Jersey senior squad and Great Britain at U17s, including 3 Commonwealth Games, Maccabi GB at 2 European games, and 2 World Games. More recently, Richard lead the Jersey delegation at the Junior Commonwealth Games in Newcastle 2018, and in the summer of 2019 was manager, coach, and athlete at the European Maccabi Games, with the GB squad winning 8 medals in the Team and individual fencing events.
TIM MILES (GBR)
British Fencing U20 squad coach, assigned Coach Educator, and SalleRepublic resident coach, Tim has coached a number of young fencers on an individual basis including National U13, U15, U17, U20 & U23 champions; many who have represented Great Britain and England in U15 and U17, U20 & U23 events. Tim is also a British Fencing Talent Coach; successful with the British Fencing Talent Pathway team, working with selected British fencers at overseas events, including the 2018 & 2019 Cadet & Junior European and World Championships.
THOMAS CUNNINGHAM-FAHIE (GBR)
A specialist in sport psychology & youth development, with a Master in Science (MSci) degree, University of Bath, Thomas is currently conducting pioneering research around parent-child closeness & competitive anxiety in young athletes – with more than 15 years involvement in athletics, as an athlete and coach at national level, his proficiency expands upon maximizing achievement, development and wellbeing through sport, with a particular emphasis on improving the relationships between athletes, parents and coaches.
WILL STURGEON (GBR)
President of UCL Fencing Club, having started fencing age 12 at a small club in mid-Wales, Will quickly made the cadet GB team and the Wales junior team; competing at the 2012 Junior Commonwealth Games. Now, top 10 in the UK, Will made the GB senior Epee team whilst continuing to be a training partner for Pentathlon GB that’ll see him supporting them in the run up to the Tokyo Olympics – when not fencing or studying, Will can be found refereeing UK competitions – he recently refereed the Modern Pentathlon European Championships 2019.
